83 GS550 Cafe build

Post  martyman5000 on Wed 16 Sep - 1:24

Way back when I was a teen I owned a CB350 that I put some cafe bars on and had a wonderful time...shocks were worn and it would pogo around corners and it went out of tune all the time but it was a fun bike. The other bike was a 100cc Hodaka

I'm 43 now and purchased a bike for $200 last summer and did a quick job getting it to run and did a sloppy paint job.

I decided that I was not happy with it and want it to be a nice Cafe racer ....I will change the triple tree/headlight/instruments and seat of course...might see if a CB350 tank might work? I will keep posting picks if anyone is interested.

BEFORE

And After

good start of a project, hope to see much of the progress as an example how to convert a modern bike!

Thank you Tin Tin...The tank and the seat need to be changed. I'm hoping I can figure out how to put an older tank on the bike. Can I take measurements and figure it out?

What you first want to check is if the old tank leaves enough room for the ignition coils.
I think the best would be to try it out before you buy it... scratch

I might take my tank to a motorcycle wrecking yard when its time to look and see if something is close....Put the swing arm on today and I'm starting to make notes on what bolts are not correct and going shopping soon.

Putting the motor in was really difficult but I got it in and I'm slowly replacing all the mismatched bolts the person who owned this bike before put in.
