KZ 1000 Project Update

Post  desautdw on Mon 25 Jan - 20:18

It's been a while since I have updated my project status, cause it's too cold here!!!! I have made a couple of cafe seats that are part of the slow work in progress. The first is sitting on the bike and the second still needs the cowl on the back finished

Maybe an idea..

I once made a cowl from an old Wok Suspect
You could also just buy a new wok that will sure smell a lot better when you start welding it!

This was my 1&1/2 seat so i could still take the Ladys for a ride (only the slim Laughing )

hey but i like that 60's due man, but a nice due and a helmet doesnt go together, (Loreal says different though hehe)

My jacket isnt leather but synt. its a very comfy jacket with sheep wool inside and amazingly warm. Unfortunately it has a torn in the right pit and it cant be fixed.
But a new is on the way. Ill have a pic ready when the blessed leather has arrived.

Leather jackets

Post  desautdw on Tue 26 Jan - 19:39

I bought my jacket in Germany (back when there was still East and West) back in the 80's. It still fits and is my regular leather jacket. Here is a better mock-up. Still waiting for my clubman bars and bar end mirrors to arrive and more warm weather to work on bike.

Tank issues

Post  desautdw on Mon 8 Mar - 20:57

Now that it is warmer, I have started work on the gas tank. As you can tell from the photos, there are more layers of paint and primer on the tank than years of age! I had to run stripper twice and then sand heavily both by hand and with an orbital sander. I found two holes drilled and plugged by bondo (mastic) on the top. Probably someone pulled out top dents. I will use JB weld on these and then final sanding and paint.

What I started with

Post  desautdw on Wed 10 Mar - 1:07

Just for reference, I started with this 1980 KZ1000. It doesn't run anymore, paint is lousy, but has potential.

Absolutely. I'd love to find myself such a kz1000. The kz1000's from 1976 of 77 are way too expensive, even when they are in a very bad condition. While those can be found at a more reasonnable price, and they are a perfect base for tansformations, as most of the bike is nearly the same as the 77 models - when you take off all the wrong stuff ;-)) like bar, seats and all...

Current status of project

Post  desautdw on Fri 30 Apr - 17:29

I have added clubman bars and have bar end mirrors that I will add, but have taken the bikini fairing off and may or may not put it back on as I like the look without it. Any thoughts? Still have to finish controls and waiting for new fuel petcock, tank and sidecover decals to come in. Motor is now running pretty good. More later, but I have been working on 5 bikes total and having a hard time focusing on this one only.

Your bike has great lines...
Looks a real grunt machine..
Black is the colour for sure..
yes working on multiple bikes makes all seem to 'go slow' the work...
but what a feast of things to do... cheers

Lines and look

Post  desautdw on Sun 2 May - 3:13

Thanks. You think fairing or no? I like my bikes to have an industrial machinery" look. I still have to clean and polish the bits more and probably replace the chain, but I like where it is going

Im impressed with the stance and brute force of the bike without the fairing, a fairing is ok , but on this one it doesnt answer.

These are just thoughts of a mad max fan Wink (they did have fairings) but scratch this line cuz im a looner. Very Happy jocolor

great bike!

hahahah... Raww Powwerr.
Hey since you like inputt..
and since the bike is so interesting... I will have a say ok..
Less is More.. Great stickers but not the try hard red dwarf
leave side panel plain black...
Otherwise.. cool.
or leave as is, if you like...
the lines of tail piece and tank, make the bike...
also the minimal mods, perfect...
motor and black also help..

Mainly just added some minor mechanical improvements and cleaned, polished and painted where needed. Spending more time riding than working on it as Summer is short here.[img][/img][img][/img][img][/img]
