CB550 Supersport Cafe

Post  schuster666 on Fri 7 May - 14:03

Hey Racers,

hereś my little story about building a cb550 Cafe Racer Very Happy

In December 2009 a bougt a CB550 Supersport 1977 with 37TKM. I wanted exactly that Model cause i saw Cafe Pics before and just fell in love with the CB...

The motor was running quite ok, only the carbs needed to be cleaned and synchronized...

Then i did a few changes to the bike...

- mounted a Raask Rearset
- took of the original rear fender and the taillight
- put on rubber gaitors on the front fork
- cut the front fender
- mounted a racing bar
- took off the ugly plastic box from the cockpit
- build a steel plate with LED light for neutral, oilpressure, direction lights and high beam

The next step was a racing tank and a seat...

from the biginning i knew what kind of tank i wanted for my projekt: a 22l ES Sporttank
and i found one over Ebay...
It was mounted on a Kawa before, so i needed to bulid some clamps to fit on my bike and
weld it onto the tank...

then the tank was sanded and i put on some flaked silver

after the tank fitted to the bike i started to work on the seat. I took my guilliari seat
and cut off 11cm. after that i removed the leather an cut off a bit of foam to make it look
more racing style but still comfortable...

at least a small taillight and number plate holder had to be mounted onto the bike...
Thatś the actual look of my Racer projekt

hope you like it...

Nice project!!
Great that you can build it just as you want it.

One question, how did you convert the Neutral light, high beam, etc. to fit a Led onto it. With power resistors or some another way?

greetings

Hey Blixa!

i just threw everything out of the cockpit, cut a plate out of metal and drilled in 4 holes.
Bought 4 LED Lights from a electronic shop and sticked just the right cables together. I bought
special 12V LEDs.
It was pretty easy actually, the only problem was the yellow direction light, because there
are two + cables (right and left side) connected to + of the LED. Needed to use a DIODE for
each + cable.

cheers,

Frank

Are you sure that's the right position for the ignition? Looks to me that the front wheel will sling a lot of dirt in/on it. Looks nice, but I'm not too sure it'll work very long.

@MIOB
Yeah, you are probably right! I changed the position a little. Now it points 45 degrees upwards.
Its now way closer to the horn and not pointing directly to the front tire any more Very Happy

Also got a little 3,2Ah battery. Will put it underneath the back of the seat soon. can't wait to remove
the side covers. I really love the pure look of the frame
