Seventy-fiver from Eindhoven

Post  Caferacer75 on Thu 8 Jul - 22:19

Hello all,
I forgot to introduce myself when I created my log-in, some time ago.
My name is Emiel and I live in Eindhoven (Netherlands). My nickname may not be that original, in this context, but it's the name I use for quite some time now for several purposes.

My first encounter with a cafe racer was with a Suzuki T500 that a colleague of mine had for sale. With it's lengthened polyester tank, mono seat, fairground airbrush glitter paint job and racing handlebars it was a real lean howling cafe racing machine. I bought it right away.
After that I've had several other bikes but every time I bought a 'project' it always turned out to become a cafe racer. I even tried to build a Yamaha XS650 chopper but it did not work out; it had to be a cafe racer.

Recently I've owned a 1980 Honda CB750 budget cafe racer. This one I build out of an abandoned project a friend of mine once started. I wanted to build a drag bike from it but since a lengthened rear swing arm does not contribute to a good handling it automatically became - you already guessed it - a cafe racer. A low budget cafe racer to be precise.

For more than three years I own a Moto Guzzi Le Mans III to which I had to do almost nothing to make it meet my taste. Apart from the handlebars I left it the way I bought it. The fairing was removed and the headlamp replaced by a round one. The seat replaced by a monoposto cafe racer style one.

Unfortunately the last couple of years I didn't take enough time to ride my Guzzi but all that is going to change, I hope. I made a good start with riding to Acherveld last weekend with two new mates.

In the future, if my other projects - waiting in the garage - are finished, I want to build myself another cafe racer again. Until then, I'll enjoy myself riding my Guzzi and watching others build/ride/display theirs.

Pictures of my bikes will follow soon. Hopefully I'll be able to scan some pictures of my previously owned bikes too.
BTW I keep a blog about (my) cafe racers too on: Caferacer75.blogspot

Cheers, Emiel
