Triple XS

Post  Hank on Mon 16 May - 22:22

I'm curious how the bike is gon'a look with the wheels in.
Why don't you use a straight bar for steering?
This year my Hanx Triple is getting a new look and a new engine.

Yesterday I ordered on ebay an Enfield handlebar.
[img][/img]
It has the same shape as a Norman Hyde handlebar for a triumph.
I only have to paint it black.

I also baught a set of brake gallipers from a FZR600 ans brakediscs too. I want to make them fit on the XS.
I've seen them on this bike:

I hope this week I find some time to mount the Avon tires on the rims. Then I can place the wheels.

Definitely! These old Yamaha mags were really obnoxious for many years
but I think they are very nice, especially if painted completely black!

Today I recieved brakediscs from a FZR600
It needs some work to make them fit but it's possible and the braking will improve a lot.

Very interesting, a friend of me is going to rebuild a SR 500 next winter and he want to use doubble brakes like these.
I think the wheels are the same ? Do you need to make spacers for the discs, and new bracets for the callipers ?

And of course, i still like the style of your build

Re: new project XS750 (what else?)

Post  kornfed on Sat 28 May - 20:38

Today I started whih the front brakes.
The discs are mounted whith improvised spacers. They need to be 12mm thick. Looking for someone to make them for me.
It just fits.
[img][/img]

The calipers just fit too. Very little space left but it's enough.
[img][/img]

Made a bracet from paper. Now have to make one from iron.
[img][/img]

Lots of work but worth trying because the braking will so much improve and it looks better to my opinion.

Also bought a pair of longer rearshocks and a digital speedo/tacho.
I hope they arrive soon.

Triple XS

Post  Hank on Sun 29 May - 12:16

Nice brakes, I'll hope it won't give to much trouble to make them fit.
Why don't you use aluminium for fitting the brake calipers ?
Last I saw a Yamaha xs750 on the internet as a off the road scrambler. It's unbelieveable what you can make out of them!!
My hands are itching to get on with my own XS 750, but I can't do to much bikes in one time!
I'm surching now for a 18 inch frontwheel of an old Yamaha XS 360 / 400

You mean this one Hank: http://link.marktplaats.nl/453212928
I keep the 19 insch wheel because whith the small tire it has a smaller diameter then the rearwheel.
I place the forks a little lower and use longer rear shocks. It gives the same effect.

Today I made the brackets for the callipers.
I used a jigsaw and it worked well. Even when the iron is 8mm thick. Now I have to drill holes and finish the brackets. I''l do that on my work.
Also mounted the speedo.
