Swede

Post  Roger on Thu 5 Aug - 2:37

Hi !
I have been lurking this forum for some weeks now and I realise it's time to join.
I am 43 years old and live in Sweden.
I currently own 3 bikes and one hobby-car. Out of these 4 vehicles only one bike is driveable.
the bikes:
Suzuki DR 800 -90
Yamaha SR 500 -80
Suzuki katana 1100 -82
the car:
Mazda miata -90

The DR is my daily bike to work etc. I have had it for 3 years now and I have used it both during summer and winter.

The Katana is mine since 1990 and it is currently spread all over the basement in the house and garage. Gearbox is fixed and frame is powder coated. New set of wheels and forks and other stuff have been bought over the years but are yet to be installed. Assembly date is not decided.

The SR is probably the bike that mostly brings me to this forum because I am planning a cafe rebuild.
The rebuild has been going on in my head for some years now but family, house and work has been going in real life for just as long, so in reality I have just started...
It has been mine since -88 and I have kept it since cause I really like the simplicity of the bike.
I have sold practically everything on this bike except wheels, engine and frame and I start from there.
The engine will be tuned a bit (have already bought the goodies) and the tank will come from a Yamaha xjr 1300, modifications on the tank have started.
I will keep the original cast alloy wheels.
My plans for the bike is to keep it very simple and basic. Plans will probably change over time so It may not necessarily end up being a traditional cafe racer.

Hi all, and thanks for the welcome.
This forum is certainly a source for inspiration. I have now gone through all the listed bike projects and the plans for my build has now changed a little bit.
It is funny though how my taste in bikes has changed over the years.
For example:I have fallen in love with some of the the Honda cx500 cafe racers. The cx is a bike I found extremely boring just a couple of years ago. Now I could even consider one in original shape.

I have actually started(again) with the SR.
I can use the mechanical workshop at work and the front disc is now being drilled. 12 out of 36 holes done.
Have also started polishing rear drum brake cover. Will post pics when I have something to show off.
Thanks everyone for the inspiration
