Magni Honda MH 900

Post  Hank on Wed 22 Sep - 0:33

My project for this winter will be a Magni Honda CB 900 of 1980. It's a frame from Arthuro Magni, former technical director of the famous MV Agusta race team. In request of the German MV Importer he build 260 special frames for the Honda Cb 900 ( and 750 -1100 ) Bol d'or engines. I'm the lucky owner of bike number 007. I bought the bike as a scrapheap, only an engine frame and wheels.
I will keep the frame original, you can' t put a grider in a masterpiece!
The only problem with the bike in standard trim is that it isn't a real ( cafe ) racer.
My inspiration is a MV like on the picture, black and red. Like a real caferacer I will keep it as simple as possible.
The inspiration is a MV, but I will not try to make it a MV replica.
Magni still exsists and when I asked the son of Arturo Magni for the color-code of the red, he was very interested in the result of my project.
At this moment I'm spaying the frame and wheels. I'l hope to give some pictures of the building the next month.
Hank.

Magni Honda 900

Post  Hank on Wed 22 Sep - 22:28

Hallo Hans,
I still own the HANX Yamaha XS 750, hoping to find a xs 850 engine. I rode the bike today to Amsterdam, it runs ( and smokes ) very well. I'm thinking of painting the seat also white with black like the patrol tank. I will also look if its possible to get rid of some unnessesary parts .
I'll keep the bike in my garage ( 3 cylinder virus ??? )

HANX MAGNI

Post  Hank on Thu 16 Dec - 21:57

An update of the building of my Magni Honda 900.
In september I painted the frame, the wheels and the engine of the Magni. Last winter I rebuild the engine, the only thing I have to do now is make the covers look good. I'm not sure about the colour of the engine-covers. Maybe I glass-blast them like on my Yamaha or paint them matt-gold ?
At this moment I'm very bussy with all the small parts. I want to finish the glass-blasting and polishing before spring, then I can start the nicest part, the rebuilding !

Getting on with my bike

Post  Hank on Thu 12 May - 16:55

It´s some time ago, I.ve bin to bussy getting a bike ready for my hollidays , a Honda CB 750 Bol dĶr
About the Magni,
The problem is that I can´t get the frontfork in at the moment. I need a bush between the upper bearing and the frame. A friend of my is making it at the moment.
Now, the front fender fits, so it can be painted. I, ve shortend the seat and when the bike is on its wheels I can finish it.
Hope to get some progress soon,
Hank. [img][/img][img][/img]

Friday the 13

Post  Hank on Mon 23 May - 23:23

[img][/img][img][/img]
What a bad night, from friday to saturday an idiot was so kind to burn down my shed. Lots of( happenly ) Honda parts of my Magni were lost in the fire. The engine is having a lot of water damage, so I can start all over. I'm glad the Magni patrol tank and sidepannel were in my house.

Magni 900 after the fire

Post  Hank on Fri 5 Aug - 23:27

A company has dried al my stuff that was getting wet whit the fire. I've got my Magni back a few weeks ago and started with getting some wheels in it. At this moment I 've got the idea how I want to built him. I made a seat pan and found an adres for Suede, to make a sadle like the MV's.
Now I take some parts of to make them fit.
The pictures give an idea how the bike will become, but don't think it's almost finished.

That's quite an interesting project you have going! Is the CB engine mostly stock, or have changes been made to it?

Magni 900

Post  Hank on Sun 16 Oct - 23:36

It's bin a while ago, after the fire it cost my some trouble to get back on my project. But some nice hollidays on one of my other bikes, a Honda CB 750 Bol, gave back the inspiration to go on with the project ( Austria on a Magni next time??). With the last picture I already said it's far from finished!
There where some problems to solve. For example, a friend of my made a bush to make the upper steering bearing of the Honda fit in the Magni frame. When I placed the bush, there was not enough thread to fit the locking nut. Now I found, a fitting, special bearing. An other problem was that the frontfork ( now 39 mm ) hit the frame and fueltank, but that problem is also solved. I,m also bussy making a speedo and rev counter holder of aluminium in MV style. Hope to give a picture of the result soon,
Greatings Hank

Magni 900

Post  Hank on Thu 3 Nov - 1:46

Yesterday, I completed the front end and put on the wiring and front brakes ( of a CBX 750 new pistons, seals and pads ). I'm still looking for a right front fender and still doubt about the rearlight. What do you think of the old-cb rearlight???? ( and my new barn ??)

Magni Honda so far

Post  Hank on Thu 12 Jan - 15:54

I had some time for my bikes this month, and the temprature is very nice, even outside. I made a alu plate for the couters. Glass blasted it, the same I dit with the engine covers. The contact lock have to be replaced, the same counts for the ugly hose of the air assistance of the front fork. I'm still looking for a nice front fender in alu or rvs. Sorry for the bad picture, its time for a new camera.

Magni Honda

Post  Hank on Fri 13 Jan - 15:34

Hallo Fonz,
The wheels are original Magni ( they are called EPM ). They are a product of one of the two sons of Arthuro Magni. By the way, the front wheel is 19 inch. When the bike is readdy, I 'm gonna ask Magni if they have a fitting 18 inch front wheel. At the moment I need my monney to finish the bike.
Your Bol d'Or 900 is looking very nice, I should keep it original, and buy a incompleet or less original one to make something different of,
Gr. Hank.

Hank..

Thanks for the reply...the Magni wheels do look good..My CB900 is in amazing original condition, and I do think most of the time it would be a shame to change it.But the long winter nights bring plenty of time to think about new ideas...

The project is still going on. I'm making a seat bottom now. There are two puzzles left, the exhaust system and the front fender.
