Hello from California

Post  dld on Tue 30 Nov - 22:19

New to this forum, I own a 1979 Yamaha XS650 that I am slowly making into a very mild cafe style. Currently I have the XS and a 1966 Ducati Scrambler that is a very long term resto project.

Welcome to the forum!

Very curious about your bikes, any chance of you posting a photo? I'm a spaghetti lover myself so especially curious about the duc scrambler...

Yep.. and I hate snow...

I was riding only 30 km on the motorway last saturday, here in Holland, and I was really, really, really freezing my b***s...
I hate this weather. I hated it last year and I will hate it next year.

Anyway: welcome to our forum!

In the part of California that I live, about 60 miles east of San Francisco in the central valley, it rarely snows. We get a little about once every ten years, and then never more than an inch, and it rarely stays more than a day. It does get a little cold, enough that I had to scrape some ice off windshields this morning, but if my bike was up and running right now I probably would have ridden it to work. I can pretty much ride year round, probably at least 300 days a year are very rideable. Of course, in the summer it gets up to 110 sometimes! That can be pretty uncomfortable with a leather jacket. The great thing about where I live is not the place itself, which kind of sucks, but the fact that I can be riding in the sierra nevada Mountains, or along the coast, within 2 hours, and the fact that I ride a twisty, short, 1 1/2 lane mountain pass to work every day.

I love the state where u live David.
But i never been in your zone. Since 2002 i go to san diego once a year, i got family friends there and there the weather is perfect all the year. Just one time in 2007/2008 ive been in Petaluma for new years eve, but up there the weather is very different and freezy
One time i went from san diego to las vegas (didn't take the freeway) and i remember a nice road before arriving to Palm Springs...
Anyway even here in italy we got nice roads and weather, but the best are in moutain zone and during the winter is impossible riding.
