Mutated Kawazuki from Richmond, VA, US

Post  Jayar on Sat 8 Jan - 7:39

Hello all. It's been a while since I posted anything, but here's the latest project — all finished finally. It's my buddy Devin's 1978 KZ650 SR with an '04 Gixxer front end. We built it this summer in my garage and backyard. Couldn't be happier. Happy New Year everyone. Hope you like the bike!

There are more pics and the story behind the bike on my blog:

Thanks for looking!

Sweet!
The tiny offset headlight looks cool, what type of clock is that?
What kind of finish did you use to keep the tank from oxidizing?

Hey, thanks! Glad you guys like it.

The gauge is made by Acewell. I think Devin got it through Dime City. Really nice unit with tach, speedo, and all warning lights. You can get it wired for a lot of different models. I'll see if I can find a link...

Very nice bike!
z650 SR, great model.
How did you get that result on the tank? Stripped off the paint, and then..? Just polished the steel? Varnished it?

Thank you Zed! We stripped the tank with furniture stripper then brushed it. Then we painted it and used automotive clear coat to slow down the patina/rust. I have a couple of new methods I'm trying as well. We'll see if they work! JR

Really good looking bike with nice colorscheme!
Silver/gold/black go together well!

But I think some longer forks/shocks and slimmer
tyres would make her look even faster!

Best regards

Nice bike you got there, man. The only thing I still can't get peace with, is the small headlight. I like the old skool big lighthouses more than this tiny ones. But hey, that's the only remark I can make to this nice iron.

Grtz, Kenneth.
