Pfewwww...

Pretty special stuff this is. Manx frames are quite rare nowadays, let alone the 8 valve head. I actually didn't know an eight valve head was ever made for these bikes. (Though I do recall Weslake made a lot of efforts in this direction.)

Did you modify the crankshaft bearings or crankcase itself, to cope with the increased power? Where did you find this Manx frame? Seems like an original one, not the Unity version...

Keep up the good work! I'll be following this project... (Got a '56 Manx Triton myself, though with a '56 Grade B mild steel version frame.)

Jilles.

Hi Jilles and Joolzned

The top end conversion was first marketed by Don and Derek Rickman then Weslake brought the Idea and installed it on the Triumph TSS but Triumph were cash strapped and the castings etc where really quite poor..........

Good reading on that subject is on the following link written by a friend of mine who worked at Meriden at the time

http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/triu/triumph_tss_750.htm

later on the weslake was taken over by Dave Nourish at NRE and Dave's still going strong at his unit in Leicestershire with complete motors top ends etc.

I've seen Rickman kits exchange hands for 2000 in a very sorry state........ You guys will hate me when I tell you i got the complete set up on standard bore (re sleeved) with new pistons and a set of nearly new mk2 amals for the buy it now price of 650 of E-bay, still pinching myself now lol!

The crank is standard T140 With short billet rods and the crank has been machined for the bearings

I nearly went the route of getting some strengthened cases from Thunder engineering when I picked up the stunning rods you see in the pic

http://www.thunderengineering.co.uk Steve is a fantastic engineer check out his site he machines the Dave Nourish's crankcases

As for the frame it's an oil bearing Frame left top tube provision for oil feed to the primary chain year unknown as cant see the number on the tab for the tank strap also to note the swing arm has an oil feed for the chain built in, I've never seen that before.

The frame tank seat and front end I got from the same guy I met him at Mallory park for the festival of a 1000 bikes I went to see it and got that and a 62 Pre unit bonnie

Recently picked up another Dunstall twin disc set up that will go in the another project see pic

It's been a long time coming but I wanted to build a proper cafe so just got this one to tide me over then will be up for grabs when the Manx8valve is finished

Cheers for your comments

Jon

i would say the bleu!,
but maybe thats a bit to normal for such a special bike (you see that bleu very often)
so than perhaps the green is better, what do you think about brittish racing green?

Soooooooooooo tempted with the Blue but dont want people thinking it was built by Dave Degans (no offence Dave)

like the idea of British racing green but still like Bearts colour

Rest assured guys one things for sure I'm not going the normal Black framed route not on this one anyway, besides Crazy Cavan would strike me of the Christmas card list Very Happy

must mention joolzned just because he likes RED
