Hi From Japan

Post  Ian B. on Sat 6 Aug - 7:57

Hi there,

Long story short – Australian, live / work in Japan and have been here for many years. Rode bikes for many years (all through Uni), took a long break and getting back into it again so I don’t have to think about work all the time. My particular love / hate relationship revolves around the ‘74~’80 AMF Harley-Davidson / HD-Cagiva 2-strokes. I have a ’76 Harley-Davidson SS250 (US) and a ’78 Harley-Davidson SST 250 (Euro) model – both currently in pieces, but complete and needing resto. Imported both, so likely the only 2 bikes in West Japan.

Had a very tatty ’76 SST 250 in the UK when I was 18 (’80) that did its best to kill me, so can’t really explain why I like them – fussy, unreliable, many parts neat unobtainable, shocking quality (Italian). But they are pretty bikes - get a good, well sorted one and they are torquey, sweet and handle well. Will post pics in the appropriate forum. Look forward to seeing what everyone is working on.

If any other ‘74~’80 AMF Harley-Davidson / HD-Cagiva 2-stroke owners are around, let’s swap stories / info.

Hi Ian, welcome to the forum!
As for Italian quality... I have a garage full of '70ies Italian 2-cilinder 4-strokes... if that doesn't scare you affraid

Hi all,

Thanks for the welcome.

Tin Tin - you like a challenge I see Very Happy

ProTouring 442 - it's a small world. I have relatives in Knoxville. They look after my '72 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus 400-4BBL I am getting restored one piece at a time...

I have quite a few AMF-HD 2-stroke bits and pieces. I am hoping to build a 400 twin by combining a '79 RD crankcase & 6 speed gearbox w/ Aermacchi pistons / blocks and Dellorto PHBs (we'll see how that works out..).

Cheers,

Ian B.
