El Mirage dry lake

Post  Noisy Norton on Sat 3 May - 2:55

I know these aren't cafe racer shots but I thought I'd share them.
Fritz Kott's 1954 nitro burning Harley KR. Runs around the 120 mark.

A little lakester and a couple of cool "rat rods" in the background.

Martin Doerfler's immaculate 500 Triumph. Has run 124 mph

Starting my Norton. I can't kickstart 14:1 comp. with 36 deg. fixed advance.

Not El Mirage but Bonneville. Dave Anderson's stunning '54 BSA Gold Star. Former record holder at Bonneville. But at least its a cafe racer.

oh and i am alsow a huge fan of ratrods....i was thinking about creating my bike into a kind of "rat"caferacer...

Cool! I thought I'd be in trouble for posting photos of cars on this forum. You might want to check out www.jockeyjournal.com Its a collection of "bikers" that range from highly talented to rat bike fans. The first El Mirage meet of the year is two weeks away. If you want I can take some photos and post them. There is usually good turn out of rat rods. There has been racing at El Mirage for more than 70 years and it is about the last type of racing that hasn't been taken over by "professionalism". It really is the last of the "run what ya brung" events.

El Mirage

Yes it would be cool to have dry lake bed near by. I know of a guy who runs his kawasaki zx12 out there Mike Hutton. Hope to get my bike out to run it wide open one day.
