Yep, I agree.
Nobody has to write in English, of course - everyone is free - but it's much nicer for the members from outside Holland! We have now members from Belgium, France, Germany, Finland, Austria, Italy, America, Mexico, Indonesia, Australia, etc. It would be cool for them to participate to all forums and to be able to use all the information we post here. After all, the objective of this forum is to be international.

Nice one. As said earlier: you don't HAVE to do it, it's up to you. But if you do, it's nice for the others.

harton wrote:Some updates of the project.
At this moment the bike is complete taken apart.
Frame and some other smal parts are sandblasted at the painter right now, also the cam and sprocket cover, these also be black.
I polished al aloy parts, rebuild the forks with new stanchions, progr. springs, bushings and seals. I made new header pipes, took a pair of new jawa 2-stroke pipes have them un-chromed and cut them in about 6 pieces to re-weld them in the headers to fit. Have them re-chromed together with other smal parts.

I decided to paint the brake plates black, maybe it would have bin nice if i had done the hub also
Also adjusted the brake so it is ready to fit and go.( I machined the brake surfaces in the hub after it was spoked by Haan wheels, only this way the brake wil be at his best as the hub is mostly not round after rebuild. Ofcourse is has new linings, also machined for exact fitting)

I definitly wanted to fit a SMITHS magnetic racing tacho as i think it´s the best looking tacho around. This tacho was used on many racer of the fifties and sixties.
As these original tachos are rare and prices go over €600 i dicided to build it myself.
Machined a housing , This tacho should be cable driven original but i used the electronics from a used harley tacho as this is more acurate and easy to fit to the crane hi-4 ignition used. The dail i luckely found on ebay once, it is a original piece from a manx ATRC. Glas and bezel are new. Was a lot of work but it was worth it, just as the original. Think i will combine it with a chronometric Speedometer.

Have the engine covers back from painting so i can close the engine. I´m very happy with the result as i did not want the engine have to much polished and chrome parts.

To be continued, Erik

It is an amasing bike!

Didn't know that a Harley engine was so beautiful for a caferacer.
And the sound would be great I guess Very Happy

Are you doing any modifications on the engine itself? More horsepower maybe?

Hi "Mister Harton" - thausend "THANKS" for translate. Respect in what you do - for me a secret is what you do with the Smiths chronos. I never will open a thing like that oncemore. But if you need really professional help ( also replacement parts) look for the small German company is called "KAYA TACHODIENST". I give an old SR500 speedo for repair - and this is more a "once use" thing. Perfect work and exellent rebuild ! In Germany they are the best choise, if you have any trouble with Speedos an some more.
I hope one day we get a "youtube" sound, vibration and rollout view on you project.

Thanks, any mods? scratch think i did enough to make it a non-standard ironhead engine.
sounds like your not familiar with harley engines Wink . Original engine has single carb in the middle and both exhausts on the right side, The dry belt Primary drive and clutch mechanisme are not standard, original it´s a closed oil filled tripple chain primary. HP ? Possible it will have some extra´s hp from original but don´t expect spectacular figures.

Did some cosmetic on the primary side of the engine, clutch-actuator and inside of case painted black.Ignition timing-marks are made on the outside of the engine ( front pulley ) for easy timing.
Clutch is converted into 6 springs instead of the 2 big ones, keeps it more straight wenn pulled.Clutch mechanisme has a bearing to support the clutch on the outside.
Still have to make a cover for the generator and a front pulley protection.

Frame back from painting, rebuild can begin Very Happy
Front engine mount with regulator fitted.

The sheer number of engines in the background utterly scares me. So does the craftmanship with which you build your bike. I'm very curious to see how the bike will be once completed and I won't post any pictures of my own project since utter shame has come over me.

Keep up the good work!

Mine is a ´55, This engine will not help you, I bought it in a box complete taken apart, still need some parts for it and then full rebuild Very Happy
Put together bare cases and cylinders for display so i can look at this great engine a lot, if my wife would not be against it it was standing in the livingroom .

Time for a update, Bike could be finished by now but i recieved the keys of my new house so have something else to do now Sad .
Good thing is i will get 250 m² of garage there and can get all my bikes, parts, machines, tools etc. with me at home as it al is at my parents house right now.

At this moment it looks like this,

Recieved the new seat yesterday, nice work done for a good price. ( Kees van Hoof, Nuenen. http://www.keesvanhoof.nl/index.html )

Making the headlight/ tacho-speedo mounting now, finding the right place for these is important to give a bike the right looks.
Also decided to mount the steel fork shrouds instead of the rubber ones.
Complete electric still has to be done, It has umbilical cord only to run it right now!
