ahh Urals...
They were the bikes that got me into older bikes. Will get one for next summer (first finish the Trident)

My former brother in law used to own a Dnepr and in my humble opinion: these must be the worse bikes ever made. I'm even having trouble calling them 'bikes'

About every two days he arrived at my place with all sorts of stuff going wrong on the bike. At one point I had to rebuild the engine totally due to a small piece of metal (something that was still in the engine after milling in the factory) that blocked a steel ball in the pressure valve of the oil pump. When I reassembled the engine using the original bolts, I noticed that I could endlessly turn over the torque wrench. At first I thought the thread in the alloy was coming out, but when I checked, it was simply the bolts that had lengthened out

Sounds good, yeah... When you know how they were manufactured, it's probably not very surprising, anyway. I think the best with this kinda bikes, is to replace the engine/clutch with another one, from an another marque, and just to keep the ''look'' of the Russian one. If you like the look... The only good thing with them is that they are history, in many ways Twisted Evil

Well, I've met several owners of these 'things'; one had a BMW-engine built-in, another had a CitroŽn 2CV in it and I even saw one with a beetle-engine. That last one made me think of the Amazonas.

For those of you that don' know tha Amazonas: it's a motorcycle built in Brazil and uses a Beetle engine. It has the astonashing top speed of 120km/h afro

I have a dnepr mt 16 and i love it.
Never had trouble with it only no highway use thats very scary with them.(sidecar)
Its staying in the garden all year and when i put the battery in after a few kicks he starts.
All bikes are different you must learn to know what they like how to start them up how to treat them never use your choke on a dnepr or els you be kicking your heart out just use the (vlotterknop weet het engelse woord niet )and kick it.
My Harley -Davidson is a sportster from 1971 it has 900 cc and shifts on the right side.
When you start her up you must be very carefull she kicks like a mule its a real knee breaker.
You have to search for the right spot with your kickstarter place the pistons in the right place and only then it will start.
My cb 500 is another story i can kick that motor on with my arm.

And probably sucking 18 or 20 liters of gas for 100 km, on a good day, on a flat road, with no wind and riding behind a truck .

This is my friend's Ural. A bit modified, but I think it came out pretty well.
