update on my F1750

Post  rearset on Wed 4 Feb - 17:03

a mate of mine kindly donated a cafe seat to me so tonight I did some pulling and shoving, looks, to me, like it suits the bike very nice.
Will hopefully have it fully fitted by the end of this weekend. Another step closer:-)

cheers.chris

Nice seat.
Looking forward to see it finished. Are you doing it all yourself?

yes pretty much, hoping to have it mounted by Saturday arvo. Thinking I will mount it so the seat hinges from the back and swings up to access battery like the early CB450's.

thanks, other plans I have for it include a small Stone (the movie) fairing that I got from a local wrecker about two years ago, it came off a XS650 and when i got it home i noted that the headlight opening was horseshoe shape so it must have been originally made to suit T500.

I am also going to get a new front mastercylinder unit, possible one with a remote resvoir, and use braided lines. The current brakes are useless.

actually the reason for the fairing is that I am riding the bike on a 4000K run at the end of March, will be good to duck behind in any rain we might encounter, otherwise I would probably leave it naked.

ok here is where i am up to, have fitted the seat now, and hinged it so it tilts up to access battery and tool kit etc, probably going to modify the original palastic boot which sat behind the inner rear guard to fit under new seat tail section.

The fairing screen is the original one made in the 70's, same as used on the Z9's in the AU movie Stone, I don't like it much and will be cutting it down to about where that gold tape is.

It took me a FULL day to get to this point, it's piss easy doing as factory restorations compared to modifying specials.

Nice way off bolting your seat to the frame.
Might use the same solution for my F1 if that is okay
Is it the back bracket the only connection point of the seat?

My seat is ready with covering. Post a pic this weekend.
Have not seen in yet but can't wait to see it.

yes that is the only mount point, it is quite strong, the bracket material is a length of 24mm x 3mm galvo, it is fixed to the seat with fibreglass on BOTH sides of the bracket for added strength. Tomorrow I am going to cut up this rack, http://auction.netbikes.com.au/item.php?id=4427
and fit it, I will only be using the top section of the rack and it will fit neatly over the top of the ducktail.

Good idea.
Was intended to do something simular.
But I cut off the end of the frame, so I wanted to put two tubes into the end off the bikes frame.

You've got some great things!
Keep up the good work

If you havn't already done so I recommend you get the seat before you do anymore frame mods, you could fab up a loop
designed to suit the seat.

Just 3 x 6mm nuts hold it, If I remove it i would just need to find a rubber bung for the rear hole. As the 2 front mounts will go through the seat cover I will probably use eyelets for those and I think you can even get caps for them. Likely I won't ever remove it anyway. The rack will be painted black and blend in with the ducktail anyway.
