Blue Diva SR 500 project from Andreas

Post  andreas on Mon 9 Mar - 15:58

So guys - time to start a new topic - no mix with my Ducati. First picture show you the basic bought for 250,-, born in 1982 with 62000km under her feeds. Complet demontage. Frame goes with 1001 other parts for a special "candy blue" powder coating. I take every part in my hands, sandblasting, grinding, polishing or new chrom, nickel etc.
I buy a new oval swingarm, dampers and other luxusparts for her. After 3 years rebuilding, i start to look for someone who work on the engine - and guys don`t tell me a story. A really complet motorrevison is normaly nothing for your "workmate". Some things are better to give them away - or is here someone how slip the cylinder with an accudrillmachine? - So after some funny days on searching an "engineprofi" i give my motor to VD classic in france. Nice guys- clean shop - looks like the know what to do. You get there a complete diagnostic. Any!! part is messured ! After compet offer you say yes ( or no ) and it start. I brought the engine sandblasted. So you see here on the pictures. My wish was that cylinder get black, the basicmotor dark grey and then the polished cups at last. It`s only 500ccm - up to 600 is possible.
So in 3 weeks i bring the rolling frame to france. Replace the motor an running control is included.
If you work over a long time on a project like this, it happend that some ideas change. So i start with allot of blue eloxal alu parts - and now i take them all away - went them to clear alu polish.
So the wheels are now rebuild once more again. I change the mesure to 18" front and rear, front is 2,5 rear 3,5 inch.
Tires are 110 and 140 Battlax BT45.
So the biggest problem at the moment is, that a bloddy guy open the frame at the powdercoating process. So i have sandblastmaterial in the oilreservoir ! As i know this, i`m looking for a gun !! So at the moment my work is to clean it. So i flush the frame more than 70 times with petroleum - and it is not ready. I must strip down all parts to get the frame light to handle - wonderful work.
So this weekend i get the info - MOTOR IST READY - and i must hurry up.
At the moment it looks like it never end.

See the wheels now and before

and here engine after blasting and the first picture after finish from vdclassic

At the end it will look like this, with new wheels and a payton exhaustsystem. I wait for it - comes direct from osaka.

Now the project come to an end - and i MUST ride the bike ! So i prepare the next - pure race SR. First things are done.
Sandblasted frame, old aluminum tank, rebuild an very old rearend. You see coated swingarm in German DBTraingrey! My label is namend "retro speed style 61" .
A BIKERS WORK IS NEVER DONE!!

So the most of my work i do myself ( see the topic "how to prepare old parts ). I spend a lot of time to rebuild old parts
and sometime i sell over e-bay perfect restored ones - and take the money for the next - am i complet stupid ? yes, but i live with me over 48 years - so it can not be complet mistaken. Any question - write me a mail.
Andreas

Hi Hofmann, you are right - its "bling bling" , but it is very difficult to rebuild parts that they look "perfect old used" so after some years i will get the patina you like, but i confess, i like to sit in a streetcafe, the sun will shine on my motorcycle reflected the colours into my eys! - and sometimes in the eys of some other guys. A hate dirty bikes!

So Mister ,- man "Hofman". I live here on earth - North Germany - and here it is no problem to sit behind my bike and have a big pott coffee. And you?? Let use know your secrets ! And im sure that you are old enough to buy a cup off coffee - so if you need help !!, the classic rider community take you at your hand - So i hope you "bram bram guy", i meet you in Amsterdam - i spend the coffee in the sun - you polish my alu parts - and we sit in the sun for a long, long, long "colour reflection session" And then - you see heaven can be on earth. Have a nice weekend - spring is coming. Andreas
OH here i find a picture from me, before i know how to buy a cup of coffee - or is it you ??

Very Happy

I'm still busy with polishing my own parts. When I'm done with that, we could speak about the possibility of polishing your parts during a nice cup off coffee

So here come a small update. Today i get the PEYTON Parts direct from Osaka/ Japan. Don`t ask for the price! You see an perfect made exhaust and a very high footrestsystem. Think it is for Japanese shoesize 36?,and only for Riders up to 160cm - shit on it - for a ride to the "cafe" it will work - complet stainless! Andreas

Second picture fits the most! The other is too big in my opinion.

Beautifull exhaust! They also have a model with a cutout at the end, for more ground clearance! ( As if you need it Wink !)

Also a good idea to change the color of the rims. With only the hub in blue it looks better. Only one remark: what are the round 'things' at the end of the frame? Has it any use? Otherwise I would have removed it.

The blue divine would also look good on vintage Firestone tires

Nice job, Andreas. And it's almost finished.

The "eyes" at the end are normal on that frame. It`s to late to cut them away because i must weld it for close the metal.
This distroy the powdercoating. So they get some alucaps and an special part to hold the licenseplate. I must work on it.
The firestone tires looks nice - but they are expencive, but ok - i give so much money away!
I know the Peyton with cutout at the end like on old race Nortons. Looks very good - but i must go with the bike to the german TV station to get a new licence for ride it - after 7 years without checking the technic. If the man in the grey smock see that - i get extra trouble.
Andreas

In Belgium, there's no TUV. At least for the moment Suspect

With an alucap you could camouflage the 'eyes', that's an idea! With a nice logo on it, or something.

So here a short update from my blue Diva project - drive 1400 km to VD Classic with the rolling frame on the trailer - horrible trip with more than 9 hours each way.

Some pic`s from my motor ( other side and Carb) . I rebuild the carb myself with all polish, chrom, paintjob. All parts are ultrasonic cleaned. http://i80.servimg.com/u/f80/13/30/94/43/1210.jpg[/img]

Other two bikes are in work - also very special custom order.

So i hope i can ride her at the middle of may. Story get an follow up.
