John from Virginia, USA (XS850)

Post  Jayar on Sat 9 May - 22:03

Hi. Great site. I'm John from Richmond, Virginia, USA. My bike is a mix-matched bunch of parts, but it started as a 1980 Yamaha XS850 Special. I fitted it with a front end off a 2007 Yamaha YZF R6-r with a bit of machine work. The seat is homemade from fiberglas. Turned the exhaust into a three-into-one unit. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I love it. I'll post some pics. Looking forward to seeing everyone's machines. Thanks! JR

Welcome to the forum, John!

I'd be curious to hear the sound of that exhaust pipe...

Would be good to see complete bike one shot...
Is it ridable just now, what do you plan next ??

Thanks! I'll post some more pics with better lighting as soon as i clean it up a bit. I think i'm done with the major stuff on this bike. Have moved on to some friends projects and my 1979 Bonneville (hopefully done soon.) I'll keep you posted.. Laughing

USD forks look good, hard to tell if you still using mag wheels from cars... :)
since my MP3 player has wasted half my day I'm gonna sick my neck out and
say Cafe riders should get rid of any reference to original builder...
just gring them of and filll them up...
Are we on a retainer $$$
or do we subscribe to unpaid advertising

Cafe is now 'our' bike and if they hadn't made them so docile
and generic compliant for regular nong...
then the name could maybe remain...

but since they didn't, off they go...
unless you be into 'look at me', I ride what you can't afford... Suspect

Mate you do what you like,
I think it looks to be coming on well... cheers
